With the increasing size of the GLA armored forces and the defensive needs against imaginary enemies, the Chinese Army was in dire need of a new specialized ground-attack aircraft.
For a variety of reasons, AVIC Jiangxi Hongdu Aviation Industry Group Company's Q-6 program was put back on the agenda. The rebooted Q-6 was armed with a pair EMP missiles, theoretically capable of destroying most armored units while crippling those survived.
Though not yet tested in combat, the Q-6, named the "Iron Dragon", had been given high hopes, and the new production line brought a glimmer of hope to the declining Hongdu.
