Brian ‘SonicClang’ Kline (Twitter.com) with support from Ry Feiner (Twitter.com) interviews the original modding team and fans, giving a time capsule into what modding was like at it’s peak in in the early-mid 2000s.
The process behind creating the documentary involved a long proces of digital archaeology, search for artefacts that existed on the internet 15-20 years ago. This has been a long term project that looked at the original Classic Doom 3 mod project point releases, while also uncovering internal development builds, the reviving of an archived version of the original development forum, and looking at various news articles from the time of release.
Classic Doom 3 is a completed modification for the original Doom 3 retail release and requires the game to be patched to version 1.3.1, availabe here on moddb:

The mod does not work directly with Doom 3 BFG Edition however some source ports are compatible.
Things have been pretty quiet here for some time now. Rest assured we’re still working and want to show you a little something.

I have to ask: has anyone ever attempted to port vanilla textures and sounds over to BFG Edition? I like the source ports for it, but it hurts my senses still seeing the compressed textures and audio where it shouldn't be when even mods don't quite cover everything.
Wouldn't it be enough to load the vanilla data with the BFG exe?
Haven't tried it, but I'm not keen on it working since the modified engine handles assets differently from vanilla idTech4.
Are you talking about .pk4 and .resources files?
The .pk4 file is just a zip file, so you can unzip it and extract the raw contents.
You can load the raw contents with the BFG exe.
Gave it a try, but it's not that stable and the results aren't what I was expecting. Doesn't really replace all of BFG's textures. If it does, it just comes up looking flat. Sounds also go missing with the new audio rendering. I'm not an expert in much of it, so I don' think I'll be able to clean it up for use.
Sorry to have taken up so much of your time for nothing. Indeed, the BFG exe does not seem to be able to read old files.
BTW, I found a way to load old textures in the BFG system.
You can use RBDOOM3BFG(https://www.moddb.com/mods/rbdoom-3-bfg) for it. This will automatically convert and load old textures.

I think I could probably convert most of the sound files. Though for some reason, the title screen sound beeps strangely...
At least I confirmed that the weapons and imps sounded fine.
That is what I used, so I don't think that's the solution.
Really? Darn, things seem to be more complicated than I thought.
If you could give me a list of textures and sounds I could convert them myself.
How many memories I have of DooM 3 pleasant ones.
The graphics for 2004 were simply amazing.
It is impressive that every texture in the game was first made from models and then baked a height and normal map. To then get the volume and relief for flat surfaces.
Is there a mod that replaces Doomguy in Doom 3 with marine model npc from campaign, is it hard to make it possible?
The Lost Mission mod has its player model set to use the standard marine, but helmet only.
The Lost Mission Marine is in whole as the marines you encounter in Mars City, not just the helmet.
It would be great if someone made the standard marine armor (Like Bravo squad) but with DoomMarines head.
Pretty sure that's possible. Just need to tweak what head the player model chooses to use through def files.
sikkmod has an option for that
Option? Like you get to choose skin?
in the misc part of the sikkmod options. It should say something about the player head
