Something new comes this way within 48 hours or less. There will be a few demonstration singleplayer maps showcasing capabilities, unlocking numerous DarkPlaces engine features in a way to make them available for map creation.
The 2 flagship maps are Geoplanetary Station and The Hotel.
DarkPlaces has hundreds of "extensions" .. though many of them require a QuakeC implementation to take advantage of them. The new package turns a fair number of these into usable practical capabilities. Most are easy to use. Others .. by their nature involve planning and can contain a lot of "parts" ... this is where map examples come into play.
These maps and a few others will attempt to demonstrate mapping capabilities in the package that provides a wider toolset using the the familiar Q1 mapping editors for Q3 format Quake 1 single player maps. It is a fair number of features and documenting them/testing them/remembering them has been an organizational challenge.
(This will work equally well in the DarkPlaces engine or Zircon engine. The Zircon engine wants to keep full compatibility with DarkPlaces and mostly focuses on user interface improvements and in any case would love to see Zircon changes adopted into DarkPlaces.)
